Today was an awesome day. After the VC&NS Board Meeting in Charlottesville, Katy & Mason Basten and I followed Dr. Bill Trout and Nancy Trout to visit with Minnie Lee McGehee at her home in Palmayra.
Minnie Lee greeted us with a great big smile and hugs all around. We sat in her parlor and talked about The Tiller and the Canal Society,etc. It was so nice when Minnie Lee complimented me on the issues of The Tiller that I produced some years ago. To hear that from Minnie Lee was so awesome.
Mason bought a copy of Minnie Lee’s book “Mr. Jefferson’s River” and Minnie Lee signed it.
We also went out to her barn and saw an old lock gate that was removed from the Rivanna River. Dr. Bill Trout stated that this was the best preserved lock gate that we know of.
